Dave’s energetic musical style was influenced during the
late 60’s early 70’s by
Georgetown clubs in Washington D.C. Migrating to California,
he joined the Big City
Blues Band and recruited by legendary Mississippi blues shouter, Roy
Brown to performed
with him in many famous LA Clubs, including sold out shows at the WHISKEY
A GO GO.
Dave quickly gained his own recognition and popularly enabling performances
with
many other Blues headliners, such as Smokey Wilson, Willie Dixon, Big Mama
Thornton,
Jimmy Witherspoon, and often with the Thunderbird’s Kim Wilson.
As member of a national touring act, the Hurricanes, Dave played the south Florida venues where he met and played with Rolling Stones’ Ron Wood. This led to the year long gig at Ron’s club WOODY’S in South Beach, FL.
The late 80’s proved to be quite prophetic; as Dave joined the Blind Tigers only to be blinded himself by an auto accident in November 1990. Three months later he was back playing, and by 1992, he was running his own band DC Blues. In 1993, he released his first CD Alive and Kickin’ which was followed by performances with Muddy Waters’ guitarist Jimmy Rogers, on one of his last tours.
From the Florida Keys to the Georgia line, and maintaining a core band on the West Coast, Dave performs his music with tribute to many of the great artists across this country that have had influence on his unique New Orleans style. Association with Warren Caesar & Dr. John among others, reflect on his CD Blind Date, released in 2002.
The latest CD Second Chance features compelling new originals as well as a few favorite tracks from the previous two. The tracks in all three CD’s reflect years of experience, hard work and innovative song writing.
Simply put, no matter the mix or setting, what Dave Camp creates is just good music.

"Many Blues and Swing Bands these days are just rock bands in sheep's clothing.” I may be blind, but now more than ever, I understand how guys like Willie Dixon and Louis Jordan knew the secrets to good entertainment; they kept it small, tight and played the Blues which moves an audience more than any other American musical form. Dave Camp has worked with such notable artists as Willie Dixon, Otis Rush, Big Mama Thornton, Jimmy Witherspoon, Muddy Waters’ Jimmy Rogers, and many others.
